Key Appointments: Four Seasons, Ovolo, QT and more

New TAA Board Member

Tourism Accommodation Australia NSW has welcomed Jane Lyons as a new board member.

Currently General Manager of Hyatt Regency Sydney, Lyons brings over 25 years of industry experience, having worked for various hotel management companies including Starwood in Melbourne and Sydney, The Langham in London and New York and Hilton in Sidney.

“Jane has over two decades of experience in luxury and upscale hotels and has worked in many different departments in cities around the world,” TAA NSW CEO Michael Johnson said in a statement.

“She currently manages the largest hotel in the country, and her new voice will be welcome as we continue to recover from the toughest time for our industry in living memory.”

Originally from Melbourne, Lyons has worked in various hotel departments including reception, finance, rooms, operations and management.

Four Seasons Sydney welcomes new General Manager

Uday Rao has been appointed general manager of the Four Seasons Hotel Sydney.

Since beginning his career at Four Seasons in 1991 in Chicago, working as a night receptionist, Rao has held various positions within the company in Tokyo, Singapore, Dallas and the Maldives.

In 2006, he served as Hotel Manager at the Four Seasons Hotel Mumbai when it opened and recently managed the two Four Seasons resorts in Bali.

“I spent over three decades with Four Seasons in various parts of the world at different stages of my career,” Rao said.

“There is no better place for me than the Four Seasons. This is where I belong and where I feel most attuned to the culture, ethos and people of the company. It’s in the house and in the blood.

Rao will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the 531-room luxury hotel as well as its restaurant and bar.

“I’m thrilled to be part of the Sydney team and to immerse myself in Australian culture,” Rao said.

“By embracing the sophistication of the city and the hotel’s iconic location along the sparkling harbor and bustling CBD, we offer unique experiences that can only be found here in Sydney.”

QT Wellington appoints Chris Greening as Managing Director

Chris Greening has been appointed managing director of QT Wellington, joining the group’s resort in the sunny state, QT Gold Coast.

Greening brings over a decade of experience in the hospitality industry, having worked at a number of luxury properties including Crystalbrook Collection Albion, Hayman Island Resort and Emiracles One&Only Wolgan Valley.

Greening, who took over in April, said he was delighted to lead “a talented team at a hotel with such a unique history”.

“I can’t wait to see such a cosmopolitan city come back to life as it reopens to international travel,” he said.

“We are preparing for a great 2022 and beyond.”

Managing Director of Event Hospitality and Entertainment for New Zealand Operations, Simon White, praised Greening’s in-depth knowledge of the QT brand.

“We are delighted to welcome Chris to the role of Managing Director at QT Wellington,” said White.

“With his extensive experience in hotel management, I have no doubt that he will be a fantastic leader and mentor to the team here.”

Ovolo appoints chief operating officer for Hong Kong

Ovolo Hotels has announced Maël Vastine as the new director of operations in Hong Kong.

With over 16 years of hospitality experience, Vastine will be responsible for operations in Hong Kong and provide strategic direction for shared services in Hong Kong.

“Mael joins the Ovolo Group with a wealth of experience, during an exciting period of growth and opportunity for the group,” said Dave Baswal, CEO of Ovolo Hotels.

Vastine began her career in the hotel industry with the Accor group in 2005 and held positions such as COO, General Manager, Operations Director and Area General Manager within the Accor Group and ONYX Hospitality Group.
